Tantra Shastra, the scriptural lore of Tantra as it is known in the academic circle of scholars of Indology and also in the circle of spiritual seekers, is a mainstream discipline of Sanatana Vaidika Dharma, the Eternal Vedic Law of Living. Like any system which gathers non-essential things during the course of time Tantra also was subjected to corruption and abuse. As a source of power it got abused in many ways by the power mad minds.

As a result, Sages like Shri Goudapada, before the advent of Shri Sankarachaya, had to reject and condemn practices which were born of lust and passion, greed and hatred. This caused relegation of Tantra from the mainstream and a certain degree of secrecy surrounded the practices. This is evident from the popular notions of Tantra as black magic and sorcery. Researchers also added confusions to the existing notions by publishing books on Tantra with journalistic titles which served the purpose of publishers' market.

However, the Sampradaya of Vedic Tantra, that is the living tradition continued like a concealed under current( like the sacred river Saraswati) and it still continues. It is necessary to introduce the holy names of the Sages and Masters who perpetuate the practices from generation to generation through initiation into non-verbal means of experiential learning and performance research called Deekshaa and Upaasanaa respectively.

Before going into the lineage of this great tradition I would like to add a note here regarding culturally acceptable terminology in the context of Indian audience of seekers/aspirants. The west is open to any terminology by virtue of holding a blank slate. But extra caution ought to be taken in India while introducing or reviving a system which was a victim of abuse for hundreds of years.

Those who take to the study of Vedanta without proper Deeksha and Upasana are the ones who condemn Sakti and reject Her as maya and at the same time secretly indulge in satiating their urges and then rationalize it as maya! It is the duty of genuine aspirants to protect the tradition and to prevent it from attracting unwarranted social criticism and negative media highlight.

The check list:

Yoni Puja, Maithuna, Yoni cleaning,Tantric practice, Tantrism, nudity, sexual orgasm, Kama Sutra sensual massage, prolonged sexual pleasure.... to be continued.

Classical Terms which were in vogue and which are still used without the knowledge of the content and context are given below for the benefit of readers.

Suvaasinee Puja is the worship of a cultured, spiritually disciplined married woman who is traditionally dressed and decorated, in whom Shakti is invoked, reminding the presence of Shakti. This is a very common item in all traditional puja performed at various occasions at home and temples.

Dampathi Puja is the worship of a spiritually disciplined couple in whom the Divine Couple(divine pairs like Shri Lakshmi - Narayana, Shri Uma - Maheshwara)are invoked and worshiped by another couple who seek the divine grace for specific goals prescribed in the scriptures.

Instead of "Yoni Puja" it is called Veera Saadhanaa, veera means one who protects the energy without dissipation and waste. Orgasm, sexual/sensual massage and any such parlour terminology associated with the topic of Tantra would attract negative media highlight in India. Same is the case with maithuna.

It is Mithuna Sadhana where the couple are together initiated by the teacher-couple.

Let us follow the golden mean diligently.
